Studaverse ("Studaverse," "we," "us") operates the Studaverse app and website (the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why, how we use and share it, and your rights. By using Studaverse, you consent to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us:
- Account & identity: display name, legal first and last name, date of birth, institutional (school) email address.
- Profile: school/campus, major/program, year of study, bio, and any profile photo you add.
- Content: listings, job/gig posts, events, questions, answers, and messages you send to other users.
- Communications: anything you send us (e.g. support requests, reports of other users).
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: how you interact with the Platform (pages viewed, features used, actions taken).
- Device/technical data: device type, browser, and general technical information needed to run and secure the Platform.
- Cookies / similar technologies: used to keep you logged in and operate the Platform.
2. Why We Collect It and How We Use It
We use your personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and verify eligibility (that you are an enrolled student);
- Operate the Platform's features (marketplace, jobs, events, community, messaging);
- Display your profile and content to other users as part of how the Platform works;
- Keep the Platform safe — prevent fraud, enforce our Terms and Community Guidelines, investigate reports, and remove or ban bad actors;
- Communicate with you about your account, updates, and support;
- Comply with legal obligations.
Date of birth and legal name are collected for age/enrollment eligibility and identity verification. We collect the minimum information needed for these purposes.
3. Consent
We collect and use your personal information with your consent, which you give by agreeing to this Policy and using the Platform. You may withdraw consent (see Section 7), though doing so may mean you can no longer use Studaverse.
4. How We Share Information
With other users: Your profile information (e.g. display name, campus, program, year) and the content you post are visible to other Studaverse users — that is how the Platform works. Your legal name, date of birth, and email are NOT shown to other users.
With service providers: We use third-party providers to host and run the Platform (for example, our app-hosting and email providers). They may process your data only to provide services to us and are bound to protect it.
For legal and safety reasons: We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Studaverse, our users, or the public (for example, responding to a lawful request or investigating a serious safety issue).
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data Retention
We keep your personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to operate the Platform and meet legal obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records for legal reasons.
6. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
7. Your Rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct inaccurate information;
- Delete your account and associated personal information (available in-app under Settings → Delete Account, or by contacting us);
- Withdraw consent to our processing (which may end your ability to use the Platform).
To exercise these rights, contact us through the app. We will respond within the time required by law.
8. Age and Students
Studaverse is intended for enrolled post-secondary students. Some users may be minors (under 18 in Ontario). If you are a minor, please review this Policy with a parent or guardian.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy. If we make material changes, we will notify you (in the app or by email) and update the effective date.
